Unitarian Universalists to hear ‘Reimagining Together: Listen, Because Kindness Eases Change’

With this upcoming Sunday being closest to the day we honor Earth Day, the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship will hold the service “Reimagining Together: Listen, Because Kindness Eases Change,” led by our own Joan Ward. We will have special music by Dave Pettis and Susan Kuhns, and we invite all to join us for this timely offering as we honor Mother Earth in all her glory this season.

The resources for this service are from the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth (UUMFE.org), an entity within the UU Association that focuses on spiritual grounding and education for earth care and climate justice.

As Unitarian Universalists, we are positioned to be faith leaders at this critical time in our country’s history. And it can feel overwhelming. Where do we start? We run the risk of becoming quick to act without listening to each other and the communities most impacted by climate disruption.

This Earth Day, UU Ministry for Earth helps us deepen practices that put love at the center of our climate justice work, not to avoid acting, but to prepare and sustain us for action.

Join us to explore the power of listening in justice movements, why it’s important to avoid being “saviors” and instead listen to communities most impacted by climate injustice, how listening is a practice of kindness and how kindness eases change.

Also on April 20, there will be a meditation practice beginning at 9 a.m., and every Sunday at this time. The first and third Sundays hold a shorter practice. The second and fourth Sundays is practice including a dharma talk. We welcome all who want to explore this Buddhist practice or deepen their regular meditation.

Our offerings include Sunday programming each week at 10:30 a.m., two worship-type services the first and third Sundays, a small group sharing circle (second Sundays), and Action Sunday (fourth Sundays).

All these offerings are listed on the current newsletter, which is available online at PagosaUU.org. The fellowship is located at Unit B-15 of the Greenbriar Plaza, 301 N. Pagosa Blvd., on the north side facing Pagosa Peak. We also offer Zoom services the first and third Sundays of the month.

As a welcoming congregation, we work toward inclusivity and justice for all.
