At its April 10 meeting, the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) Board of Directors approved a thank-you letter to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) for a grant it received to support the district’s wastewater treatment plant upgrade project.

PAWSD Programs Director Renee Lewis explained that the district was notified the third week of March that it received $1 million from DOLA to help support construction at the Vista Wastewater Treatment Plant to bring the plant into compliance with new nutrient-removal requirements.

She indicated that the district received the executed award at the end of March.

Lewis commented that she would welcome comments on the letter and that it was not a timely matter, but that she feels sending the letter is “good form.”

“DOLA’s been very supportive of all of our projects,” Lewis said.

PAWSD board member Gene Tautges moved to send out the letter that Lewis drafted.

He also commended staff for doing a “stellar job with a capital S” on obtaining the grant.

PAWSD board member Alex Boehmer also thanked staff for their work.

The board then unanimously approved the letter.
