Musicians invited to join Community Band

Posted

The Pagosa Springs Instrumental Music Society (PSIMS) is seeking musicians to join the Community Band. Do you have a neglected band instrument calling softly to you, “Remember me? I want to come out and play.”

Here is your chance to waken sleeping music talent. Bring your instrument to the Pagosa Springs High School band room next Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. as we gather to rehearse for our upcoming Band-O-Rama concert on May 19.

We will have rehearsals each Sunday until the dress rehearsal on May 18. The Community Band will play two songs on their own and join the combined middle and high school bands for the grand finale with everyone on stage.

PSIMS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed to support music in our schools and community. Our motto is “Music for Life.” We believe that music gives us all a richer experience of life. People of all ages can learn and improve their skills. To give musicians a reason to practice, to entertain the community, and to gather your generous donations, we put on three other free concerts each year, aside from the Band-O-Rama.

This year’s Fourth of July concert will be on the lawn by the The Springs Resort. In the fall, our concert highlights the Community Band with challenging pieces from many genres. Then, before Christmas, our members form small ensembles and join with vocal students in the area for a winter-themed concert in the lovely sanctuary of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church.

The past two years we have been able to provide two $1,000 scholarships to our high school graduates continuing in music, and last year we purchased a beautiful set of chimes for the high school band. Your donations stay in the community and help promote and facilitate music education for all.
