From the July 11, 1968, Pagosa SUN — SMOKEY BEAR — Smokey Bear was one of the more popular attractions in the Red Ryder Roundup parade. The children were particularly impressed by the shaggy opponent of fire and careless use of matches and cigarettes. His appearance was sponsored by the Forest Service.
