Dear Editor:
Well it’s been a month since the last water bill, that l payed for, at the bank, in cash....and since then l have received yet another bill...this time, with the same surcharge, and a late fee, due to my refusal to include the prior month’s surcharge, and yet another surcharge for the ‘unaffordable’ housing project, water payments added to it. When l was getting ready to leave, l asked the teller, just out of curiosity, “Hey, l’ve got to ask you something..have a lot of people asked about the same thing?” “Yes” was his reply,”...”and have also refused to pay it.”....
When l heard that, l felt that my prior letter to the editor, may have had an impact, or not, and that people were re-acting in similar fashion. Now, last week l noticed that in The Pagosa Sun had an article about PAWSD is having an election, for their ‘Board of Directors’ under the title “PAWSD ELECTION FEATURES FIVE CANDIDATES, THREE OPEN SEATS”...using ‘mail ballots’. let’s do a little homework, and find the candidates who will NOT support the so-called MANDATORY SURCHARGE (tax)...and vote them in. l talked to Bill Hudson, who is on the Board, and he stated that he was for it....(he needs to be voted out, in next election). l can’t speak for the other candidates, being as l didn’t speak to them... but their names are, Alex Boehmer, Gene Tautges, Bruce Jones Jr., Carl Young, Christa Chagra. Perhaps, someone can post in a ‘Letter To The Editor’ your findings...being as according to the terms of the paper, l would be past my limit, on how many letters l could submit, within a month.....but you can find it in the April 3 edition of the Pagosa Sun, letters to the editor, under the title ‘Water Bill’....the key quote from that article is this....” Below the bill is a volunteer spot for the ‘Pagosa Outreach Community’....and a spot for you to volunteer how much money you’d like to donate....no problem with that, but the other one is ‘MANDATORY’...and included as part of the bill. ...WRONG !! ...and considering all the news, in regards to unexplained ‘taxes’ that we are being charged, and to where it’s going, l thought that this letter would be appropriate, as to call everyone’s attention to this flagrant, unilateral decision by a public company to transfer received money for one thing and transfer it to something else, without even telling the people paying for it..!! and let’s not ‘assume’ that these ‘officials’ of the ‘board of directors’ are honest people.”
