Dear Editor:
As a publication that is read by Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, it is disappointing that the Pagosa Sun decided the local, peaceful “Hands Off” protest on Saturday, April 5, was not newsworthy and chose not to include even a photo of the event in last week’s paper. That day there were over 1400 events held nationwide.
It is a fact that Archuleta County is a majority Republican county. However, more than 40% of voters in this county voted for someone other than Donald Trump in last year’s election. He won the election by less than 50% of the nationwide vote.
Over 300 people showed up and walked through downtown to publicly express their views that the country’s institutions, freedoms, and programs (many of which affect rural communities such as Pagosa Springs), are in peril due to the actions of the current administration.
The people who are protesting love America, the constitution, and the rule of law and will continue to peacefully express dissatisfaction with what is occurring in the country.

Editor’s note: The SUN strives to provide a variety of news that is important and interesting for the varied interests of our readers in Pagosa Country and beyond. Last week was a busy news week in the area, and several important and interesting items did not fit in the print edition of The SUN. Some of those items appear in this issue, while others appear on www.PagosaSUN.com — ways we work to get more information out to our community than print alone would allow. Multiple letters to the editor printed in the April 10 issue of The SUN spoke to the local turnout of the event.
