Dear Editor:
We attended a meeting of the Archuleta County Democratic Club held at Coyote Moon on Monday. The event was open to the public. The greeters and most club members were quite warm and inviting. The guest speaker and subject matter, Tracks Across Borders, were both interesting and informative. From the view of an outsider, it was obvious that these people did not represent the far-left liberal protesters that garner the bulk of attention on world news outlets these days. These were the kind of people that when exercising free speech rights, do so peacefully, respectfully, and with tolerance for the views of others. From the group’s demeanor it was obvious that they would never condone the type of destructive and malicious behavior we witness almost daily by masked rioters in larger cities across our nation and even worldwide. Those criminals may not be getting a check directly from Soros, but many of the organizations that orchestrate the protests and print the signs and slogans seen uniformly worldwide, do. Our own government funds politically slanted NGO’s through grants that are not voted on nor approved by congress. Destroying property and livelihoods does not constitute tolerance or civility. Nor do threats of assassination against our leaders.
The ACDC folks remind us of the old Democratic Party. The party of Clinton and Obama that spoke against fraud, waste, and abuse. The party that vowed to close our borders. The party that campaigned against violence. This party, even Pelosi, campaigned against tariffs imposed on us by our foreign competitors. Certainly, never condoned female athletes being injured competing against biological males.
A recent quote from former Clinton pollster, Doug Schoen, that “the Democratic Party exists only to oppose Republicans” and was “out of step with Americans” describes what seems to be the new Democratic Party. A party that doesn’t have new ideas. The new leaders appear to be “squad members” AOC and her ilk, who encourage violence and use profanity as if this portrays some sort of toughness or is appealing to the left’s base.
The people we met at Monday’s meeting certainly did not seem the type to oppose closing our borders or deporting those here illegally, that break our laws, rape, torture and murder innocents, and flood our country with dangerous drugs. Condone taxpayer millions, billions, even trillions of dollars being wasted on insane expenditures that are totally unaccounted for.
Government agencies that cannot or will not even attempt to pass an audit. As well as public servants quickly becoming multi-millionaires while making roughly $200K/yr., how do they do that? We know that a business operating in this manner soon goes bankrupt, and our country was headed straight for that outcome. And, that our social security system cannot survive if we continue to pay out benefits to millions who are non-citizens, over the age of 120, or have never even existed.
Sustainability and tolerance are great concepts, let’s practice!
