Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County is hosting our second annual 15 Homes in 5k next weekend on Saturday, May 31. This year we’ve added a 10k distance and a kids’ super sprint to round out the day.
The race is set to begin at the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association Clubhouse at 230 Port Ave. The runners descend the “hill to homeownership” into the Trails subdivision, where 5k racers will do a hairpin turn near the brush-mulching facility on Sam Houston Avenue.
The 10k course continues past this turnaround and in to the Chris Mountain Village II Subdivision, where Habitat Archuleta’s 2023 and 2024 partner families live.
Registration is open on our website until race day. Day-of registration will open at 8 a.m., with the 10k race starting at 10 a.m.
2025 marks 30 years since Habitat Archuleta sold our first house, on Sept. 13, 1995. For 28 years we built one home per year, steadily growing our impact in the community. When county commissioners voted to donate several tax lien lots, we shifted our focus to triple our capacity and complete 15 homes in five years.
This summer we’re actually building away from the race course to fill in our last few lots near Hatcher Lake, but the race is still dotted with our handiwork. The 10k goes along our proposed 2026 build sites, where we’ll be building four more modular homes to finish out the five-year plan. Each of these all-electric homes will be equipped with net-zero rooftop solar panels, like every home we’ve built since 2022.
We’re accepting applications for the 2026 build season through the end of June this year, so come join the fun and check out the views.
