During a work session held by the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) on May 20, Public Works Director Mike Torres provided the BoCC with a brief administration report, noting that the Building and Grounds Department had recently performed basic maintenance at Cloman Park during a disc golf tournament May 17 and 18.

Torres noted that the property was mowed and the vault toilet was serviced for the event, with Commissioner Veronica Medina describing the work as a “cleanup around Cloman.”

Commissioner John Ranson inquired how the event went, with County Manager Jack Harper explaining, “There were … a few instances of people spending the night” at the property.

He then informed the BoCC that he is now working with interim county attorney Lance Ingalls and the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) to develop a resolution to be presented to the BoCC “to prevent overnight camping.”

Harper noted that the resolution would allow the ACSO to enforce that policy, rather than just doing a trespass for people who are attempting to stay at Cloman Park overnight.

According to the county’s website, “Cloman Park is a free day use area,” that is reservable for private events by requesting a special use permit through the county.

During the work session, Harper also informed the BoCC that the state has a new “festival permit.”

Executive Assistant/Paralegal Tonya McCann explained the state has new festival permit for serving liquor, and the county is now working on adopting that.
