Book study for women to start Nov. 4

“Can you hear me? Can you hear me now?” was a Verizon commercial campaign that hit the airwaves in 2002. Dropped calls and balancing on one foot to stay connected fed the success of their tagline.

But what if Verizon’s original campaign focused on listening versus hearing?

What if, amidst the struggles of day-to-day life, they admitted that the secret to staying connected started with deliberately putting down the phone so that the art of listening could be achieved?

Yes, that would be a horrible marketing campaign for a phone company, but that does not negate the value of silence. For it is in silence that our souls are gently fine-tuned to hear God’s voice.

This is the focus of Alice Fryling’s book titled “The Art of Spiritual Listening: Responding to God’s Voice Amid the Noise of Life.”

In the thick of daily life, the 128-page book offers practical insight and creative reflection found within scripture.

Seeking to hear and respond to God’s “whispers,” especially during times of struggle or worry, is the goal of the upcoming book study being hosted by the Pagosa Catholic Women’s Fellowship.

All women seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ are invited to participate. The book is available online.

The eight-week book study will start on Monday, Nov. 4, at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church located at 353 S. Pagosa. The rosary will be at 9 a.m., followed by the book study and fellowship from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Come for all or as you wish.
