In the 10 years I’ve lived here I have never written to the editor of our local newspaper. I am however compelled to share some viewpoints regarding the upcoming election for the office of sheriff.
Personally I am an independent thinker and vote my conscience and necessarily not by party lines. After watching what is happening in government today I am convinced more than ever of “term limits.” The current sheriff’s department has been in office for what will become eight years and I feel it’s time for some housekeeping with a wide clean broom.
I have also recently had some issues with the sheriff’s department on an issue regarding an investigation involving some illegal drug activity in the Lakes area. This issue has concerned neighbors and calls for help and assistance have been slow and inadequate. I am sorry to say the lack of interest and follow up and not having my phone calls returned with something so serious has left me very disappointed.
The Archuleta sheriff’s department is what I call my first line of protection and defense when living in the county and I am feeling betrayed, unserved and ignored by the very agency that claims to be here to protect and serve all of us.
My vote will be cast for Carl Smith, a man with experience, integrity, honor and a man whom I trust to do the job.
