Special to The PREVIEW
The engine of our small town is fueled by the energy of volunteers. Every nonprofit organization relies on people power for successful events that allow them to continue their good work in the community.
The Little Black Dress Affair benefiting Seeds of Learning is no exception. Over the course of nine years, literally hundreds of volunteers have helped plan the fun, serve the food, tend the bar and create great memories for guests. The vital help that our volunteers provide allows the generous contributions received from the evening to go directly to helping our at-risk kids.
Over 80 percent of the children who attend Seeds each day are from low-income families that cannot afford to pay full tuition. The education these children are receiving will help them succeed in kindergarten and later in life. They in turn will become successful adults giving back to their community. The circle of being helped and helping others will roll on.
On Oct. 14, our volunteers will help create Prom Night for 300 ladies at the Ross Aragon Community Center.
The evening will begin with appetizers, beverages and an amazing silent auction. More creative volunteers have planned, engineered and donated unique themed masterpieces for bidders to enjoy. You’ll find everything from gardening to pet care, bourbon tasting to beginning quilting, all “packaged” in inventive new ways. A delicious catered dinner will follow while the Cannondolls entertain you with a rockin’ good time.
This year, we have the Young Professionals of Pagosa Springs shouldering many of the volunteer tasks. Their offer of help has allowed some of our tried and true volunteers from the past the opportunity to attend this event as a guest for the first time.
Tickets are $55 and are available at Seeds of Learning, 575 S. 7th St., Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reserve your table for eight friends and join us for an evening of fun with a purpose. Call for more information: 264-5513.
We sincerely appreciate our volunteers past and present. As you sip your wine, sample an appetizer and bid on your favorite item, please thank a generous volunteer who is making that all possible. Seeds and our entire town really couldn’t function without them.
