The Pagosa Pirates girls’ volleyball team recently played three tough games on its home court at Pagosa Springs High School.

Last Thursday, the team took on Alamosa, playing five tight sets, but ultimately finished with a loss.

“It was one of those frustrating losses because we really beat ourselves,” coach Connie O’Donnell wrote in an email to The SUN.

The team played hard throughout the sets, but struggled with serving and hitting.

Still, Madi Lewis made 21 kills and Megan Farrah made 11. Miah Pitcher and Morgan Lewis also attacked aggressively, with Pitcher scoring six kills and Morgan Lewis scoring five.

“Our defense played outstanding and adjusted well to their offense. I really was proud of our defensive stand against the Mean Moose,” O’Donnell stated.

On the defensive side, Taylor Jones proved herself with nine blocks throughout the games.

Farrah made 23 digs and Madi Lewis made 21. Remy Oney and Niki Taylor were also standout defensive players, Oney with 11 digs and Taylor with 10.

LaShae Smith made 11 assists, and three of the girls boasted high numbers for service receptions. Farrah made 29 service receptions, Taylor made 15 and Oney made 13.

Unfortunately, the strong defense fell just below the mark.
