The second reading of Ordinance 808, the Visitor Center Lease Agreement, will take place during this week’s meeting of the Pagosa Springs Town Council scheduled for noon on Thursday, April 17, in the council chamber at Town Hall.
This item was tabled at the April 1 meeting, after several local business people expressed their concerns about moving the Visitor Center from its current location by the river to the old City Market complex. The council agreed to wait and see if bringing new personalities to the table might make negotiations with the Chamber of Commerce more amicable.
However, immediately after that meeting and before the new mayor and town council members were even elected, Town Manager David Mitchem began conducting meetings with the new Chamber director and board president. Councilors Kathie Lattin and Tracy Bunning, who are not new members of town council, were present at those meetings.
The latest such meeting was conducted on Monday, and soon afterwards the agenda for this week’s town council meeting was changed so that a planned update on the Visitor Center situation is now a second reading of the ordinance finalizing the lease agreement with the Pierce Mangurian trust for the old City Market location.
