Special to The PREVIEW
The Veterans for Veterans of Archuleta County meets at The Quality Resort every Tuesday at 10 a.m. We want to bring you up-to-date on some key events/items that we have been involved in/are working on.
First, Valor Healthcare (subsidiary of Humana) has officially taken over management of the Durango VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) this week and we are already hearing good feedback from our veterans. Hopefully this will continue and our veterans will be receiving the care they earned, deserve and were promised. Any veteran who switched to the Farmington clinic due to the poor service they were getting at the Durango clinic is free to switch back at any time.
Second, the Pagosa Springs Medical Center is now contracted with the VA and is part of their network for providing colonoscopies. We have already had two veterans who have received their referrals from the VA to have the procedure done locally. Look for more services to be provided to our veterans by our local hospital, through the VA, in the near future.
Third, we are adding an event that we hope becomes our signature annual event. The event is the Veterans for Veterans golf tournament, which is scheduled to take place on May 17. We will have three separate par-3 holes where participants will have a chance to win an SUV, a set of golf clubs or a golf vacation, and a Harley Davidson. There will be a lot of other prizes and giveaways as well. Get your teams together and register soon, as we anticipate slots will fill up quickly. Signup sheets are located at the Pagosa Springs Golf Club. We are still looking for sponsors (tee box, prizes, donations, etc.), so please contact golf committee leaders Ken Rogers, (303) 902-5340, or Chuck Jordan, 731-5399.
Fourth, we will be having our annual parking lot rummage sale April 26, in the Quality Resort parking lot on the west end of town. If you have any items than you would like to donate, please call 799-VETS (8387) and we will arrange pick up before the sale.
Veterans for Veterans of Archuleta County is a local nonprofit organization developed to meet the needs of local veterans including financial assistance, help during a move, transportation to a medical appointment, help in filing VA claims or dealing with the VA, providing firewood or water, help paying rent and utilities, finding housing/assistance for homeless veterans, computer/technical assistance, help during emotional distress, visiting shut-in veterans and those in the nursing home, plus much more.
If you would like to make a donation to help our local veterans, you can mail it to: Veterans for Veterans of Archuleta County, P.O. Box 5331, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.
It is only through the generosity of our compassionate donors that the Veterans for Veterans of Archuleta County can offer its support to Archuleta County Veterans and their families in times of great stress.
