UU topic: Who was Jesus?

By Jean Strahlendorf
Special to The PREVIEW

On Dec. 15, Jean Strahlendorf will examine the question: Is Jesus an incarnation of a theistic deity, or should Jesus be seen as a God-presence, a life through which the Kingdom of God is breaking into human history?

Did Jesus’ humanity fade and his divinity rise with each successive written account of his life?

This examination will explore the life of Jesus through the earliest known writings and compare their content to later written canonical gospels. The earliest documents to be reviewed are the Q document, the Gospel of Thomas and the apostle Paul.

Additionally, we will examine a correlation between the telling of the story of Jesus’ life and the liturgical celebrations of Judaism in the first century.

Jean Strahlendorf is a member of the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Worship Committee.

The Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship sponsors a children’s spiritual educational program and encourages families with children to please join us for our Sunday service. Our children’s religious programs teach our Unitarian Universalist heritage, ethical living, moral precepts to love your neighbor, work for a better world, and to search for truth with an open mind. Arts and crafts projects are utilized to illustrate these principles.

The service begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, located at Unit B-15, Greenbriar Plaza. Turn east on Greenbriar Drive from North Pagosa Boulevard by the fire station, then left into the back parking lot and look for the big sign. All are welcome.
