United Way golf tournament is Saturday

It’s the middle of August; afternoon monsoons are here and mornings are just a welcome tad cooler than they were a month ago.

That means it must be time for the United Way Golf Tournament — on Saturday, Aug. 17. The tournament takes place at Pagosa Springs Golf Club, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration is at 8, and the format is a four-person scramble.

This golf tournament is the primary fund-raising event for Archuleta County’s United Way campaign. United Way’s mission is to positively impact the community by supporting local agencies and programs that promote education, healthy lifestyles and self-reliance. United Way funds local non-profit organizations that help youth and young adults be prepared for school and stay in school; help people live within their means and be self-sufficient; and help people access affordable, quality physical and mental health care.

Entry fee for the United Way Golf Tournament is $80 per player and includes green fees, golf cart, range balls, lunch and prizes. Prizes include passes to local and regional golf clubs, tickets on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and more.

We encourage all area and visiting golfers to participate in the event and to sign up as soon as possible for a fun day on the course. Golfers can enter as a team or individually by calling the local United Way office at 731-0484, e-mailing lisaj@unitedway-swco.org or by signing up at Pagosa Springs Golf Club.

United Way is raising funds for American Red Cross, Archuleta County Victim Assistance Program, Axis Health System, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado, Girl Scouts of Colorado, Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County, Housing Solutions for the Southwest, Pagosa Outreach Connection, Pagosa Pregnancy Support Center, San Juan Basin Area Agency on Aging, Seeds of Learning, Southwest Conservation Corps and Volunteers of America Southwest Safehouse.

To register for the tournament or for more information about United Way partner agencies or programs, call Lisa Jensen, United Way community relations coordinator, at 731-0484 or e-mail at lisaj@unitedway-swco.org.
