Turkey Trot: a perfect prelude to the feast

The 2013 Turkey Trot event provided a pre-feast workout for dedicated Pagosans and seasonal visitors alike.

For those who embraced the challenge, this annual Thanksgiving Day race held at the Pagosa Lakes Recreation Center included a two mile walk and a five mile run.

Although temperatures were colder than the previous year, many walkers and runners flocked to the start line where Pagosa Springs High School cross country coach Scott Anderson encouraged everyone to “hurry back.”

First back for the 5 mile run on the men’s side was Tyler Greenly, a PSHS athlete, with a time of 35:58.  On the women’s side, former Pirate runner Katarina Medici came in first with a time of 36:10.  Second through 10th place on the men’s side included Dan Turk, J. Van Patten, Eric Deitemeyer, Kade Skoglund, Matt Roane, Cliff Ho, D. Peak, Jason Dickenson and A.J. Peak.  Filling in the second through 10th place spots on the women’s side were Jami Harms, Jaclyn Bramwell, Anna Dennis, Angela Gallegos, Heather Hoffmeyer, J. Peak, Michelle Lucero, Kirsten Le Roux and Becky Deitemeyer.

Thanks to all the race sponsors and volunteers who helped make the event a success.  This year’s Turkey Trot sponsors included Snow Country Tours, Brilliam Engineering, Two Chicks and a Hippie Bakery and Coffee House, Pagosa Chiropractic and the Pagosa Lakes Recreation Center.  The proceeds from this race benefit the Pagosa Lakes Porpoises swim team and the Pagosa Springs High School cross country team.
