Only two hurdles remain before the Pagosa Springs Sanitation and General Improvement District can move forward with a planned project to build a pipeline from the town’s current sewage lagoons to a Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District facility.
For the last several years, the town’s sewage lagoons have been at or near capacity and the town has faced serious fines from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. After the town’s unsuccessful attempts to expand the lagoons, the former director of PSSGID, Phil Stark, negotiated an Inter-Governmental Agreement with PAWSD and won a multi-million dollar grant to build a pipeline with lift stations that would convey the town’s sewage to the Vista wastewater treatment facilities.
