Town clean-up week ends May 17

Staff Writer

This week, May 12-17, is Residential Town Clean-Up Week and the Town of Pagosa Springs is taking on an active role.

“Over the past two decades, the pride in our community has increased dramatically,” states a press release from mayor Don Volger. “Improvements in the physical infrastructure and cleaner neighborhoods have been occurring every year. This year I would like to personally urge you to participate in Clean-Up Week 2014.”

Take advantage of the following town services this week to assist you with your clean-up efforts.

Dumpsters

The town has committed to providing dumpsters for town residents to use during their clean-up process. The dumpsters are located at 703 S. 5th St. within the Streets Department fence. The site is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through May 17. You must show identification and must be a town resident to use the dumpsters.

The press release states, “If a town resident is unable to take items to the shop because of a hardship, please call Town Hall at 264-4151, ext. 238 to coordinate assistance. Town staff will confirm all hardships and if valid will coordinate Town crew assistance while the resident is present during pick up.”

The town will not accept household trash, hazardous materials, engines, batteries, tires, appliances with freon, or building/construction materials.

Junk vehicles

To coordinate the removal of a junk vehicle, call Rita Prokop at the Town Hall at 264-4151, ext. 238. The town cannot guarantee that all removals can be completed and proof of ownership of the vehicle is required.

Cemetery clean-up

Cemetery clean-up is scheduled for the week of May 19-23. No dumpsters will be provided at the cemetery.

The press release informs that, “The Town Police Department will issue nuisance notices to property owners who have junk or litter on their premises after clean up week, so please partake in Clean-Up Week 2014 and take your items to the Town shop.”

“Your help during Clean-Up Week 2014 is essential to making Pagosa Springs a beautiful and healthy community for all of us to live within and enjoy,” the release concludes. “Thank you.”
