Dear Editor:

How are we ever going to get more young people to serve on the town council when their meetings are in the middle of the day? Council members receive no remuneration for the time spent preparing and at meetings, so losing time/pay from regular jobs can be a “lose/lose” situation.

P.S. The Durango town meetings are at 7 p.m.

Editor’s note: there are two regular town council meetings each month: one is held at 5 p.m., the second at noon. Five of seven members of the current council are employed and all regularly attend meetings. According to Article 3 of the Town Charter, the council sets its meeting days and times.
