Special to The PREVIEW
On Sunday, Dec. 22, Pauline Benetti, accompanied by some members of the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, will present a program that centers on the importance of light.
From the dawn of intelligence and perhaps before, the promise of light lessens the burden of darkness. As the sun rises, the terror recedes.
As religions were shaped, the light continues that ancient association as well as gaining new attributes. On Sunday morning, we will look at the symbolism of light in several religious holidays — Diwali, Chanukah, winter solstice, Christmas and Kwanzaa.
Benetti is the current president of the PUUF Steering Committee and a member of the Worship Committee. She works with individuals who desire to increase our chances of survival by reducing our rapacious demands on planet Earth. She finds these folks in the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership, the Southwest Organization for Sustainability, the Pagosa Farmers Market and in PUUF.
The Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship sponsors a children’s spiritual educational program and encourages families with children join us for our Sunday service. Our children’s religious programs teach our Unitarian Universalist heritage, ethical living, moral precepts to love your neighbor, to work for a better world, and to search for truth with an open mind. Arts and crafts projects are utilized to illustrate these principles.
The service begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Pagosa Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall. The address is Unit B-15, Greenbriar Plaza. Turn east on Greenbriar Drive from North Pagosa Boulevard by the fire station, then left into the back parking lot. Look for the big sign. All are welcome.
