Team practice sessions at community center gym

Have a team? Volleyball, basketball?

Need some practice space?

The Ross Aragon Community Center is offering practice time for teams in the multi-purpose room, Monday through Friday from 3:30- 5 p.m.

The room can be reserved and is available at no charge.

Please call the center at 264-4152 to reserve a spot — one time per team, per week.

Wellness program

The Wellness Center will present a community center program on Wednesdays from 1-2 p.m., beginning Feb. 13.

The 12-week program consists of weekly lectures covering diet and exercise, using the well-known Mayo Clinic Diet book and journal. For $50 a month (financial assistance available), you will get exclusive Wellness Center incentives, such as free fitness classes, discounts at local restaurants for healthy menu items and much more.  So, jump on board and kick those old habits, and start 2013 with an action plan for change.

Free programs

Musical Story Time. A 30-minute story time for children that involves hands-on music as well as colorful age-appropriate books designed to inspire the imagination. Come to the center on Fridays and enjoy the free play time. Call the center for more information at 264-4152.

Beginning and Intermediate Guitar. Classes taught by Tyler Fearon. Please call the center for more information.

Beginning and Intermediate Technology. Classes taught by Becky Herman. Call her at 264-2171 or 903-0788 for more information.

Mah Jongg. Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m. Call the center with any questions, 264-4152.

Pickleball. Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8-10 a.m. If you would like to learn the game of pickleball, or just need a pickleball fix, join us from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. to learn this fun and exciting game. Loaner paddles are available. Contact Fran if you have any questions, 884-3184.

Tai Chi. No experience is necessary. Join instructors Pam Kircher and Anna O’Reilly. Classes are Wednesdays, 11 a.m.-noon. Please wear flat-soled shoes and bring water. Class is open to everyone.

Duplicate Bridge. Tuesday, 5:30-10 p.m.; Friday, 12:30-4:30 p.m. Call Stan, 731-2217 or e-mail Stan at sunset1310@aol.com.

Pagosa Bridge 4 Fun. Mondays, 12:30-4 p.m. For more information, contact the community center, 264-4152.

Hoopsters. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 a.m. The Hoopsters are a great group of guys getting out there twice a week for a good old fashion game of basketball. If interested, just drop in and check it out.

Yoga. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10-11:30 a.m. Rejuvenate with us. Please bring a mat or towel. Call the center with questions, 264-4152.

Sozo Yoga. Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Sozo Yoga is a Christ-centered flow class that moves from one pose to another with fluidity. This class is held to Christian music; it begins with a scripture and relaxing warm-up, and then flows into a series of poses that increase the heart rate, detoxify the body, strengthen the muscles, and finally finishes with deep relaxation. Students are encouraged to go at their own pace and no prior yoga experience is required. Call the center for information, 264-4152.

Beginning Dulcimer. The dulcimer is an entry folk instrument, not as difficult as the guitar to learn. If you would like to learn to play this instrument, come to the center on Wednesdays, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Call for information at 264-4152.

Belly Dancing. A pleasant aerobic exercise, dancing brings well-known benefits, such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, weight control and more. Belly dance helps to develop muscle control and isolation, graceful arms, and body conditioning from head to toe. Join Carla Roberts on Wednesdays, 3:30-4:45 p.m. Call the center for information.

The Ross Aragon Community Center has the space you are looking for. We have reasonably priced rooms to meet your event needs. Our rates range from $6 to $90 per hour. Room sizes for 20, 40, 50, 90 or 500 people.

The community center hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday by appointment only.
