Summer has arrived, and so have the events

SUN Columnist

Summer has arrived and so have our tourists. Business owners, prepare yourselves with plenty of inventory and staff available to make the season smooth and rewarding.

Colorado Bike Month

June is Colorado Bike Month. We all know that Colorado is a premier bicycling state. To celebrate bicycling for transportation, fun and health, Colorado has designated each June as Bike Month. Colorado is also part of a nationwide effort to encourage cycling novices and enthusiasts to experience the fun and freedom of safely riding a bike to work, school, errands and recreation. June 25 is Bike to Work Day; leave your car in the garage and enjoy a bike ride to work in beautiful southwest Colorado. Join the growing number of Bike to Work Day participants and bike to work on Wednesday, June 25.

Proper bicycle safety is important for all bicyclists, regardless of age. The bicycle must be in proper working order, with tires inflated, brakes in proper working order and steering working properly. Wear a bicycle helmet that is fitted correctly, make sure your bicycle is the appropriate size and follow all rules of the road. Visit for more information about bicycling in Colorado.

The Bicycle Tour of Colorado will be coming through and spending a free day in Pagosa Springs. Bicyclists will arrive in Pagosa on Bike to Work Day, June 25. The Chamber of Commerce will host a Party in the Park for all bicyclists, locals and visitors on June 25 from 4-8:30 p.m. at Town Park. We are still looking for nonprofits to sell food during the event to raise funds for your worthwhile causes. If you are interested in learning more about the Bike Tour Party in the park, please call Cindi Galabota at 264-2360.
