Straight answer

Dear Editor:

Four times over the last four months I have asked the office of Rep. Tipton to point me to the data that the Representative relied upon to vote to cut $40 billion from the food stamp program (formally titled as S.N.A.P. – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) over the next ten years. After three requests I got a boilerplate letter that did not address my specific question; my fourth request has been ignored. Maybe with the data in hand I could understand why SNAP was chosen for cuts and to the tune of $40 billion. I can only conclude there is no data, just ideology. I am disappointed and indignant that I couldn’t get a straight answer, but no more so than the 3.8 million people to be denied food stamps this year under the plan, and 14 million over the next ten years (source: Congressional Budget Office).
