Special to The PREVIEW
The Book Nook at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church will hold a used book sale open to the public this Saturday, Feb. 1, from 9 a.m.-noon. Books are priced at rock bottom prices with paperbacks only a quarter and hardbacks a dollar.
Buyers are invited to peruse and purchase a wide variety of books at St. Patrick’s Book Nook, located in the library of the parish hall building.
The Book Nook, originally a part of the church’s summer Shamrock Festival, took on a life of its own a number of years ago, when Bonnie Brookes, Book Nook coordinator, realized there was a need for inexpensive reading material in the community and there was a potential for the ministry to be a continuous source of funding for church outreach programs.
“We want to encourage people to read, and at the same time we want to help support our outreach ministries,” said Brookes. The Book Nook has provided money for St. Patrick’s quilting ministry, their food box ministry, and other outreach projects in the church. “It’s amazing how quickly those quarters and dollars add up. We are very pleased that we have been able to assist our community through this ongoing project.”
At the Book Nook prices, you can leave with plenty of reading material to enjoy during the cold winter months. “We have received a lot of new novels. In fact our book shelves are over flowing,” says Brookes. “We need to make room for new donations, so we hope we will have a big crowd of book lovers come and take advantage of our sale.”
Book Nook doors will open at 9 a.m. Saturday in the building adjacent to the main church building. St. Patrick’s is located at 225 S. Pagosa Blvd., with parking located in the back.
