Special to The PREVIEW
Contrary to local rumor, there will be a St. Patrick’s Day parade, albeit a short one.
St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church parking lot will be the scene for the world’s shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday, March 15, beginning at 11 a.m.
Be on time; you won’t want to miss it (it won’t take long). But, once you are there, plan to stay, because the day will be filled with tons of Irish fun. The party ends at 3 p.m.
On hand will be traditional Irish music and dancing, bagpipes, games, souvenirs and delicious food. Twenty vendors have signed up to sell their wares, offer money-saving coupons and bring important information. This is a real parking lot party in a lively Irish manner that Pagosa Springs residents can truly appreciate — a fun day for the whole family.
Fr. Doug Neel will don his St. Patrick attire and lead the way in the traditional St. Patrick’s parade. The St. Patrick’s float has led the Pagosa Springs parade for many years, and this year will be no exception. However, if you blink you might miss it, so plan to come and be a part of the fun.
“This is not meant to be a money making event,” says the event’s organizer, Jim Dorian. “We just want to honor our church’s patron saint with a fun family style event for the whole community. We will not be serving alcoholic beverages, but the breweries will be represented and will be offering discount coupons for those who want to continue their celebration over the weekend. Food will be available for purchase at a minimal cost, as well as Irish souvenirs, snacks, and other items from vendors. We will also be offering free soft drinks in exchange for cans for our food pantry. The point is to come and have a great time.”
Put on your dancing clogs and come and join the fun at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, located at 225 S. Pagosa Blvd. In the event of winter weather, wear your warmest green garments and come have fun.
