The Book Nook at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church will hold a used book sale open to the public this Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Books will be at rock-bottom prices with paperbacks only a quarter and hardbacks $1. Buyers are invited to peruse and purchase a wide variety of books at St. Patrick’s Book Nook, located in the library of the parish hall building.
A number of years ago, Book Nook coordinator Bonnie Brookes realized there was a need for inexpensive reading material in the community and there was a potential to create a ministry that would help serve that purpose and be a continuous source of funding for church outreach programs. The church library became a receptacle for gently used books to be sold for a very affordable price.
“We want to encourage people to read, and at the same time we want to help support our outreach ministries,” said Brookes.
The Book Nook has provided money for St. Patrick’s quilting ministry, food box ministry and other outreach projects in the church.
“It’s amazing how quickly those quarters and dollars add up. We are very pleased that we have been able to assist our community through this ongoing project,” Brookes said.
At Book Nook prices, you can leave with plenty of reading material to enjoy during the warm summer months. “We have received a lot of new novels. In fact, our book shelves are over flowing,” says Brookes. “We need to make room for new donations, so we hope we will have a big crowd of book lovers come and take advantage of our sale.”
Book Nook doors will open at 9 a.m. Saturday in the building adjacent to the main church building. St. Patrick’s is located at 225 S. Pagosa Blvd., with parking located in the back.
