Dear Editor:

Pagosa Springs is special because of its uniqueness and one of its unique features is that we do not have a Wal-Mart — yet. We will lose our uniqueness quickly if they come in.

In the meantime, we are being sorely tested. At least three of our “elders” have passed: Tinnie Lattin, then Gertrude and two weeks later, Ben Gallegos. We also lost two 52-year-old men: Dusty Worcester and Kenny Wilson. On top of this sorrow, other families have been severely impacted as a result of serious accidents.

We must offer support and comfort in these situations and alleviate as many problems as possible as we did recently with a fund-raiser for Dusty’s family. It is amazing how individuals come through when the chips are down.
