South 6th Street to be closed until Oct. 8

Commuters in downtown Pagosa Springs need to be made aware of a significant road closure: Beginning, tomorrow, Sept. 17, at 8 a.m., South 6th Street will be closed to traffic between U.S. 160 and Zuni Street, and will remain so until Oct. 8.

In a phone call to SUN staff today (Tuesday), Bob Hart of Hart Construction explained, “We need to close Sixth Street, because of the limited space there. We’re going to have concrete trucks and dump trucks and all kinds of stuff, so closing the road is just the safest thing to do.”

The road will be fully closed and signs at each end will indicate the detour route(s).

Town planner James Dickhoff indicated this closure is to accommodate construction of the pedestrian bridge, which was approved by town council earlier this summer and will provide the long-awaited connection between the Riverwalk section that meanders behind Town Hall and the section that runs through Centennial Park.
