Something new

Dear Editor:

Who are we, anyway? Well, to start with, we locals are folks who came here many years ago — for some that is a generation or more and for many, only decades ago.

This beautiful place, with all its challenges for year-round living, attracted us because we love challenges, we love the fact that challenges bring folks together, that the lifestyle is quite simple — no need to worry about fancy clothes and the such. Folks don’t really care about that, they simply care that you are kind, helpful, and neighborly — things that are hard to experience in the stressful “city-life” from which we all escaped.

And, of course, the exceptional climate and weather challenges us to be outside, and as a result, many of us are still healthy into our eighties and nineties.

We have grown to become a place that welcomes those who visit from “busier” lifestyles, and yes, no doubt they are “Wal-Mart shoppers” as that represents the lifestyle they are accustomed to. So, perhaps Wal-Mart can give them what they miss from home, but maybe they will prefer to experience something new.
