Something for everyone at the 2013 Archuleta County Fair

It’s time for a treasured community event in Pagosa Country: the 2013 Archuleta County Fair.

If any yearly event embodies the essence of the longest-standing elements in Pagosa Country — the agricultural and ranching communities — this is it.

And if any event remains atop the latest trends and favored activities, for youth and adults alike, it’s the fair.

Following is the 2013 Archuleta County Fair schedule. All events are held at the fairgrounds on U.S. 84.

Thursday, Aug. 1

7:30-9 a.m. — Exhibit Hall, Open Class Perishables (baked goods, floriculture and horticulture) received.

8 a.m. — Fairgrounds, Cowboy Fast Draw: setup and open practice.

8 a.m. — Livestock Tent, Goat Shows; 4-H, Open and Showmanship.

8 a.m. — Fairgrounds , Junk Yard Jamboree/Tractor Show entries come in.

10 a.m.-6 p.m. — Fairgrounds, Kids ride the train/Kid Games Tent.

11 a.m. — Activity Tent, Beer Garden opens.

Noon — Livestock Tent, Lamb Show; 4-H, Open and Showmanship.

1 p.m. — Activity Tent, 4-H Dog Obedience and Agility Competition.

2 p.m. — Livestock Tent, 4-H Turkey Show and Showmanship.

5 p.m. — Livestock Tent, 4-H Swine Show.

5 p.m. — Rodeo Arena, Parelli Natural Horsemanship Exhibition.

Friday, Aug. 2

7:30-8:30 a.m. — Rodeo Arena, Horse Show registration.

8 a.m. — Livestock Tent, 4-H Swine Showmanship

8 a.m.-7 p.m. — Fairgrounds, Kids ride the train.

8 a.m. — Fairgrounds, Junk Yard Jamboree/Tractor Show Display opens.

9 a.m. — Rodeo Arena, Horse Show (Open and 4-H).

9 a.m. — Fairgrounds, Education Tent and Exhibit Hall open.

9 a.m. — Fairgrounds, Vendors open.

9 a.m. — Fairgrounds, Cowboy Fast Draw.

10 a.m. — Kid Games Tent, Stick Horse Race.

10:30 a.m. — Education Tent, Wild Man Phil and His Animals.

11 a.m. — Kid Games Tent, 3-Legged Race.

11 a.m. — Activity Tent, Beer Garden opens.

9 a.m.-6 p.m. — Fairgrounds, Learn the game of horseshoes with free instruction. 12 years of age and up.

9 a.m. — Fairgrounds, Education Tent, Exhibit Hall and vendors open.

9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Fairgrounds, Cowboy Fast Draw Colorado State Championship: Main Match.

10 a.m. — Livestock Tent, 4-H Master Showman.

10 a.m. — Kid Games Tent, Stick Horse Race.

10 a.m. — Rodeo Arena, Ranch Rodeo signup.

10 a.m. — Fairgrounds West Entrance, BBQ Competition entries.

10:30 a.m. — Education Tent, Wild Man Phil and His Animals.

11 a.m. — Activity Tent, Beer Garden opens.

11 a.m. — Activity Tent, Elias “Lefty” Caress–Magic and Entertainment.

5:45 p.m. — Activity Tent, various contests to follow Fair Honorees.

6:30 p.m. — Livestock Tent, Livestock Auction.

8 p.m. — Fairgrounds, Education Tent and vendors close.

9 p.m. — Fairgrounds, Exhibit Hall closes.

9 p.m.-midnight — Activity Tent, Fair Dance with The High Rollers.

Midnight — Fairgrounds, Fair and Beer Garden closes for the night.

Sunday, Aug. 4

The fair buildings and tents close at 6 p.m. All exhibits, BBQ pits and Junk Yard Jamboree vehicles must be removed from the fairgrounds by 6 p.m. Sunday.

8 a.m — Activity Tent, Pancake breakfast with gospel music.

8 a.m.-4 p.m. — Fairgrounds, kids ride the train.

8 a.m. — Livestock Tent. All private haulers must remove animals.

8 a.m. — Fairgrounds, Junk Yard Jamboree/Tractor Show display opens.

8:30 a.m. — Cowboy Fast Draw, competition second-chance match.

9 a.m. — Livestock Tent, all other animals loaded on semi truck.

9 a.m. — Fairgrounds, Education Tent and Exhibit Hall open.

9 a.m. — Rodeo Arena, Kid’s Rodeo late registration.

9 a.m. — Fairgrounds, vendors open.

10 a.m. — Kid Games Tent, Stick Horse Race.

11 a.m. — Activity Tent, Beer Garden opens.

11 a.m. — Kid Games Tent, 3-Legged Race.

11 a.m. — Activity Tent, BBQ judging.

Noon — Livestock Tent, Farmers’ Market opens for business.

Noon — Fairgrounds. Cowboy Fast Draw: Top 5 Men’s and Ladies Shootoffs begin for overall championship. Awards ceremony immediately after shootoffs.

1 p.m. — Kid Games Tent. Bubble Gum Game.

1:30 p.m. — Activity Tent, Junkyard Jamboree awards.

2 p.m. — Kid Games Tent, Needle in the Haystack.

1-3:30 p.m. — Fairgrounds, BBQ public tasting.

3 p.m. — Kid Games Tent, Water Balloon Toss.

4 p.m. — Kid Games Tent, Hula Hoop.

4 p.m. — Fairgrounds, Education Tent closes to the public.

4 p.m. — Activity Tent, winners announced for BBQ Competition.

4-6 p.m. — Exhibit Hall, release of Open Class Projects to entrants and premiums paid.

5 p.m. — Activity Tent, Beer Garden closes.

6 p.m. — Fairgrounds, fair closes until next year.
