Snow to end, cold night ahead

The clouds are ready to break, with scant snow expected the remainder of the day, today, in Pagosa Country.

With the departure of the storm, a cold night lies ahead, with an anticipated low of 3 degrees in Pagosa springs.

Plenty of sunshine is expected Saturday, with a daytime high of 35. The forecast for Sunday is for partly sunny conditions, with a high of 37.

Snow or flurries are predicted for New Year’s Eve, with a good chance of partly sunny conditions for the first day of the New Year.

In the high country, the storm leaving the area today has left 16 inches of new snow during the last 48 hours at the Wolf Creek Ski Area, providing excellent opportunities for holiday activities there and in the backcountry. The area reports powder conditions today, with a 49-inch base at the summit and 47 inches midway.
