The Durango Interagency Fire Dispatch Center reports that residents will likely see a smoky haze in southwestern Colorado for the next several days. Smoke is coming into the area from the Assayi Lake 1 Fire, burning northwest of Gallup, New Mexico.
The fire is burning through pinon, juniper and brush on the Navajo Nation, about 100 miles southwest of Durango. As of Sunday night, June 8, the fire was estimated to be approximately 600 acres.
Southwestern Colorado is under a Red Flag Warning today and tomorrow, due to forecasted low humidity and high winds. No fire restrictions are currently in place, however residents and visitors are reminded to be careful with fire.
