Smart enough?

Dear Editor:

America, where art thou?

For those of us who turn to the good book, the Bible that is, it makes us wonder. Scripture clearly states that there are different kinds of work, but that the same God through his Spirit works through them all.

In clearer words, all work is important and deserves respect and dignity.

So, what is wrong with us as a country? We will pay up to $2,500 for one football ticket and enjoy the convenience of the fast food restaurant so we won’t have to cook in our busy lives.

Does it ever occur to us that the “convenience” is prepared and served by those who must turn to public assistance (taxpayer money) to augment their inadequate wages?

Why does a successful company deny those responsible for their success the dignity of a living wage? They need only to raise the price of their burgers to take care of this — we’ll still come, for it is the convenience that sells.

Are they smart enough to figure this out?

We’ll see.
