Silent auction treasures at Ed Center New Year’s Eve Celebration fund-raiser

By Rosalind Marshall
Special to The SUN

The Archuleta County Education Center New Year’s Eve Celebration fund-raiser will feature some unique and classy silent auction items.

Generous donors from the Pagosa Springs community have given a fabulous array of treasures for the enjoyment of guests and the benefit of the Education Center.

One of the top items is a silverware chest handcrafted from black cherry and tropical koa veneer, which features solid brass hinges and pulls. The koa, a rare hardwood found only in Hawaii, was transported back to the U.S. as hand luggage by the creator of this exquisite piece. Fifty hours of skilled craftsmanship produced this chest, valued at $500.

Jewelry is also featured. A handcrafted silver and turquoise pendant, a replica of an angel from an ancient Etruscan cathedral, was designed and created by acclaimed Colorado artists James Walton and Elizabeth Baldwin. The beaded necklace is made from the highest quality sterling silver, turquoise and glass beads from Czechoslovakia. The earrings are also sterling silver and turquoise.  This one-of-a-kind museum quality set was individually made in Colorado, and is valued at $400.

Jeff Laydon of Pagosa Photography has donated a Legacy Family Portrait Package, value $350.

An authentic Tiffany lead crystal vase is offered, valued at $300, complete with its original signature box and Tiffany logo packaging.

Other items include a sophisticated Diane von Furstenberg suitcase, a Territory Huntsman Leather Jacket, valued at $500, and gift certificates from Elk Park Animal Hospital.

Come ring in the New Year with music, dancing, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and champagne at the Pagosa Lakes Clubhouse on Dec. 31. Festivities will begin at 8 p.m. and a complimentary champagne toast will be held at New York midnight, and for those wanting to party the night away, another one at midnight “Pagosa time.”

Tickets are $40 for singles, $70 for two, and are available via PayPal on the website at www.ArchuletaCountyEducationCenter.com, at the Chamber of Commerce, or with cash or check at the door.
