SHY RABBIT Contemporary Arts’ mission is to promote, teach and nurture the creation of and appreciation for contemporary arts.

One of SHY RABBIT’s most heartfelt goals is to enable those who would not have the opportunity or the resources otherwise, to participate in high quality workshops and/or programs.

In pursuit of these goals, a scholarship program called the SHY RABBIT ARTAdvantage Program was created. This program is designed to encourage and enable Archuleta County residents to pursue their creativity.

This SHY RABBIT ARTAdvantage Program was implemented in the fall of 2008, and has resulted in the granting of full and/or partial scholarships to nearly 20 deserving adults and teenagers to date.

Eligibility will be determined by workshop availability, financial need and genuine interest. Participants must be Archuleta County residents who are 18 years or older. Previous workshop participants are not eligible.

Funds for the ARTAdvantage Program are provided by SHY RABBIT in combination with a few generous supporters who also believe that art has the ability to change and improve the quality of our lives.

One partial scholarship (50 percent of course fee) is available through the SHY RABBIT ARTAdvantage Program for each of the following three workshops: session No. 1: Printmaking without a Press 1: March 29-30; session No. 2: Printmaking without a Press 1: April 12-13; and session No. 3: Printmaking without a Press 1: May 17-18.

These introductory printmaking courses will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The course fee is $250, which includes all necessary course materials, inks and paper.

Printmaking without a Press utilizes a unique hand-pressed printing process called “Reductive Ink™.”

Participants will be introduced to the basics of this unique printmaking technique and will learn how it can replicate traditional printmaking processes without the use of harmful chemicals or expensive printmaking presses.

Students are provided with a materials list and are encouraged to advance at their own pace by practicing this remarkable printmaking technique in the privacy of their own home.

Printmaking without a Press 1 is also designed for those with traditional printmaking experience and is geared to enhance existing skill levels in preparation for intermediate and advanced classes, if desired.

For space availability or to register, please contact Denise Coffee at 731-2766 or shyrabbit01@aol.com. Online registration is also available for all workshops at www.shyrabbit.com/RegistrationWorkshops.html.

Workshops are held in one of two spacious and comfortable, 1,000 square-foot mixed media studios, and are instructed by professional artist, D. Michael Coffee.

Coffee’s monotypes have been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout the country and are included in dozens of national and international private collections and public corporations.
