Special to The PREVIEW
Professor John Graves has led a life that few of us could even dream of living!
John has rubbed shoulders with such luminaries as Bertrand Russell, Katharine Hepburn, Nureyev, Rose Mary Clooney, Dave Brubeck, George and Gracie Allen, Jack Palance, George Burns, Lois Armstrong, Jimmy Durante and a host of others (read John’s fascinating book “Just Say Yes: Memoirs of a Geezer”).
The Professor has traveled extensively throughout the world, played piano with some of the greats, produced movies, worked at NBC on several series, including “I Dream of Jeannie,” taught broadcasting and film at Central Missouri State University, and was a puppet, a pauper, a poet, a pirate, a pawn and a king.
The particular vocation that touched so many hearts was John’s brilliant musical career. Sadly, that part of his life is winding down due to many health issues.
We are pleased to announce that we will be celebrating a lifetime of John’s music in a special concert, featuring a big band, several talented singers, and performing a few favorites — the maestro himself. This show will be captured on video with high fidelity sound; a real “lights, action, sound” event.
The tribute will take place at The Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts at 2313 Eagle Drive. Showtime is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1.
