Second Lifelong Learning lecture set for tonight

The second lecture in our six-week free Fall Lifelong Learning series takes place tonight, Thursday, Oct. 22, when Terry Schaaf from the Archuleta County Extension office will speak on “Food Preservation,” explaining what you need to know to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.

The third talk will be on Oct. 29 by Elizabeth Howey, Jan Santopietro and Lacy Caprea, a Pagosa Springs Medical Center wellness trio who will explain a variety of local options for health improvement, including nutritional counseling, classes and free early detection screens. You also will learn about how you can manage your health online.

The fourth lecture, on Nov. 5, will feature Jonathan Dobson and will be on “The Way of the Tree: Photographs and Stories from an Around-the-World Trip,” a photo montage of several countries spanning three months.

The fifth talk on Nov. 12 showcases Jimbo Buickerood. He will discuss “The 30-Year Controversy of the Village at Wolf Creek.”

The last lecture, on Nov. 19, will be from another traveler, Rose Lynn, who will discuss “Barren of Human Rights: Touring North Korea” that will dispel some myths you may have about North Korea.

Pick up the brochure with more details of the speakers and their programs at your library. The lectures run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. No advance registration is required.

We will have a limited number of pumpkins available for pickup on Monday, Oct. 26, or you may submit your own decorated pumpkin — carved, painted or decorated as you choose.
