Special to The PREVIEW
On Aug. 22 the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs will host its annual Auction for the Animals. This year marks our 20th annual auction event, and we’ll be celebrating this landmark with a gala evening of fine dining, fine wine and microbrewery beer, and fabulous auction items.
This year’s auction will feature seated dining with a delicious summer menu catered by Alley House Grill. The annual August auction is the Humane Society’s largest and most important fundraising endeavor of the year, so please mark your calendar now to attend this fun evening.
The Auction for the Animals is a very popular and well-supported annual community event. Attendees can bid on items donated by local merchants, businesses, professionals, private individuals, authors, celebrities and sports stars from all around the country.
Tickets are $35 and will be available beginning Aug. 1 at the Humane Society Thrift Store, the Ross Aragon Community Center and online at www.humanescoiety.biz. There will be no ticket sales at the door this year, so remember to buy your tickets in advance.
The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs is a private nonprofit organization that operates the only animal shelter facility in our county. Your local humane society does not receive funding from the Humane Society of the United States, American Humane or any other national animal welfare organizations. Private donations, grants and thrift store revenues cover only a portion of animal shelter operating expenses. The remainder of the budget must be met through fundraising events like the Auction for the Animals.
Examples of available auction items this year include a 1987 Ford Mustang T-top with fewer than 5,500 original miles, a custom hand-crafted canoe, beautiful jewelry designed by southwestern artists, gift baskets, art and antiques, pet supplies and toys, restaurant meals, lodging, rafting, golfing — there is virtually no end to the list.
The Humane Society of Pagosa Springs is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. All auction donations are tax deductible, and auction items and cash sponsorships are currently being solicited. To make an auction donation, please contact the administrative office at the number listed below.
The funds raised through the Auction for the Animals will go directly to benefit the homeless dogs and cats in our community. Board members and volunteers donate their time and talents to handle all fundraising efforts by the organization and new volunteers are always welcome. For more information, please contact the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs administrative office at 264-5549.
