Pagosa’s San Juan Shootists was named Club of the Year for 2012 by The Cowboy Fast Draw Association. Members of the Shootists are working to organize the 2013 Colorado State Championship, which will be held at the Archuleta County Fair.

The Cowboy Fast Draw Association (CFDA) has named the San Juan Shootists of Pagosa Springs as the club of the year for 2012.

There are over 70 Cowboy Fast Draw clubs nationally and internationally. Only six other clubs have been named the CFDA club of the year since 2002, when the CFDA was founded. It’s quite an honor for our local club to be selected as the CFDA club of the year.

The San Juan Shootists club was formed here in Pagosa Springs in 2009. We are a registered LLC in Colorado and an IRS recognized 501(c)7 non-profit organization. We are a member of the Pagosa Springs Area Chamber of Commerce.

In 2012, our club hosted the Cowboy Fast Draw Associations Colorado State Championship during the Archuleta County Fair. Over 80 competitors from 12 different states came to Pagosa Springs to compete for the Men’s, Ladies’ and Youth division championships. Officials reported that fair attendance increased from approximately 4,500 in 2011 to approximately 8,300 in 2012.

The club is currently working on the 2013 Colorado State Championship, which will again be held at the Archuleta County Fair. The club also holds public demonstrations and fund-raisers so folks can try Cowboy Fast Draw for themselves.

To read more about Cowboy Fast Draw and the San Juan Shootists club, pick up a copy of the “Gunslinger’s Gazette,” published by the CFDA, at Goodman’s department store downtown or at Eagle Mountain Mercantile uptown on Talisman Drive. Copies are limited, so if you don’t get one visit www.sanjuanshootists.com and click on the Gunslinger’s Gazette link on the home page.
