San Juan Conservationist of the Year

Betty Shahan accepts the San Juan Conservation District award for  Conservationist of the Year at the Archuleta County Fair. Shahan has worked with the San Juan Conservation District and NRCS office on her ranch in Archuleta County on a variety of conservation practices over the past years. Shahan has restored 1 mile on the Navajo River that flows through her property. She has also continued to improve her grazing management, irrigation water management and riparian and wildlife habitat management every year and is committed to sustainable agriculture. Shahan has always been progressive in implementing conservation on her property and managing public lands through permitted allotments throughout the years. She is an ambassador when it comes to promoting conservation and is involved with many conservation-minded organizations. She gives a lot of her time to other landowners, throughout all of Archuleta County, to help them improve their land.
