Although the primary election is still more than a year away, Richard Valdez, current Archuleta County undersheriff, has thrown his name in the hat for the 2014 sheriff’s election.

Valdez filed his candidacy on June 1.

“The election is just over a year away and I felt it was a perfect time to get my name out there and give people the opportunity to get to know me, to observe the work I do, and the commitment I have to this county and law enforcement,” Valdez said in an e-mail.

I worked with this man for 9 years and watched him grow into a seasoned law enforcement professional. He is a competent, knowledgeable hard-working individual who is both respected and admired by his peers.. Archuleta County couldn’t do better !!

Vote for Valdez. This guy is very community oriented. He cares so much about Archuleta County and ALL of the citizens. He’s doing so good as Undersheriff right now.
