March 28th will mark four years without my wife, Susan. I still mourn her loss to colon cancer. Not long following her untimely death, my good friend, Stan Zuege, suggested I help him do logistics for Relay For Life.
Although I knew Relay For Life was a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, I had never volunteered to participate. Stan and I became partners doing logistics for the Relay For Life and this last year, we took on different responsibilities in conjunction with a number of other community volunteers to make 2013 the most successful fundraising effort Relay has had locally. After the event, Stan and I committed to one more year —please join us.
This year, Relay For Life is set for June 20. We will be kicking off the campaign later this spring, but first we need to get organized. You are invited to the organizational meeting for this year’s event, which will be February 4, at the Ecoluxe at the Springs Conference Room. Plan on coming at 5 p.m. and enjoy refreshments as we set our sights on 2014.
There are few among us who have not experienced a great loss as the result of cancer. Help us stop cancer. We could sure use your help this year. Thanks.
