Special to The SUN
Relay For Life 2013 is set for June 21-22 this year.
To get things started, we invite you to attend the Kickoff Rally on Jan. 22. It is a chance to get your team registered, have some fun and learn more about the American Cancer Society and why it is so important to help with this fund-raising event. Don’t have a team? We can help you form one, join one or help one. Everyone is welcome at Relay.
This year, the national theme is “Dream Big, Hope Big, Relay Big.” We want to build on that theme by adopting an acronym for “Big” that captures the local enthusiasm for this event. Help us out, here.
This year, a renewed focus on youth is being made. We have two great people coordinating those efforts to make sure young people feel welcomed at Relay.
Relay For Life began in 1985 with one man’s 24-hour walk/run around a track to raise $27,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year, Relay For Life will take place in nearly 5,100 communities — not just in the U.S., but in another 20 countries.
You can join your friends, neighbors and cancer fighters everywhere in this effort. Relay brings together people from all walks of life, all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Society’s vision of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
We look forward to seeing you at the Relay Kickoff Rally, 6:30 p.m., Jan. 22, at the Pagosa Lakes POA office conference room. Bring your friends.
