Special to The PREVIEW
One of Relay for Life’s anchors has always been the auction. This year, the ladies of Alpine Lakes Ranch are once again handling this event, under the chairmanship of Lynn Groshans. She has 50 purses, ranging from a raffia beach bag to two barely used Coach bags. Some of them look brand new and some of them actually are.
And it’s not just bags. Groshans has also received some wonderful donated items. Other donations are still coming in and are gladly accepted. Contact Groshans at email@example.com to make a donation.
In a new twist, items available for auction may be either bid on or purchased at a predetermined set price. The items will be available online for purchase on a site will be announced next week, one day prior to the actual auction.
The dunk tank, sponsored by Pagosa Mountain Morning Rotary Club, is another greatly anticipated event, and this year we have Natalie Woodruff and Carl Smith promising to be in the tank. Michael Whiting, John Weiss, Rich Valdez, Clifford Lucero and Don Volger are scheduled, pending confirmation. A couple of years ago, our esteemed (former) mayor, Ross Aragon, showed up in pressed jeans, good boots and a dress shirt. He thought he would be bobbing for apples. Not that kind of dunking, Ross. He went in anyway, after being urged to remove his boots.
There are always things to do and fun events for the kids, so please plan on attending Relay for Life of Archuleta County on Friday, June 20, held again this year on the track at Pagosa Springs High School. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.
