Register for fall gymnastics

SUN Columnist

Registration for the fall session of gymnastics will open Sept. 3 and close Sept. 16 (or when classes are full).

Through an ongoing partnership with Pagosa Springs Middle School and local instructor Jennifer Martin, the Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department is offering this program for ages 3 and up.

Classes, which will be strictly limited to no more than 10 students per age group (eight for ages 3-5), begin Sept. 17 and will run through Oct. 10. Classes will be held in the middle school “mat room” (wrestling room) according to the following schedule:

Classes for ages 6 and 7 will be held Tuesdays from 4-4:50 p.m. Classes for ages 7 and 8 will be held Tuesdays from 5-5:50 p.m. Classes for ages 9 and up will be held Tuesdays from 6-6:50 p.m.

In addition, classes will be held Thursdays from 4-4:50 p.m. for ages 3 and 4, from 5-5:50 p.m. for ages 4 and 5, and an intermediate class consisting of mixed ages will be held from 6-6:50 p.m. (students in this class will need to be pre-approved by instructor).

Cost is $30 for the complete session, but parents will also have the option to pay per class if attending all sessions is not feasible.

Registrations will be available at the recreation office in Town Hall and will also be posted in Adobe format on the recreation department page at www.townofpagosasprings.com.

For more information, call 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.

Youth soccer

Youth soccer rosters for all divisions are finalized and practices are being held at the elementary school and Yamaguchi Park fields.

Parents who have not heard from a head coach can call the recreation office to obtain roster information. Schedules for all divisions are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and online through the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com; games will not begin until Sept. 5. Games will be played Monday-Thursday. There will be no games scheduled on Saturdays unless absolutely needed in order to make up rain-out dates.

Games for the 5-6 and 7-8 divisions have been scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays at the elementary school soccer fields, while the 9-10 and 11-12 divisions will play Tuesdays and Thursdays at Yamaguchi Park on South 5th Street. However, since teams from Dulce, N.M. will again be included in the league, local teams in the 5-6 and 7-8 divisions will occasionally play Thursdays against Dulce at the elementary school; the 9-10 division (and possibly 11-12 division) will always play Thursdays against Dulce at Yamaguchi.

For more information, call 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.

Horseshoes

Horseshoe pitching will continue through the summer at South Pagosa Park.

Players of all abilities (ages 12 and up) are welcome. This activity is for anyone wanting to learn the game and how to pitch, as well as anyone who already knows and wants to improve. Physical requirements are minimal.

There is plenty of room so, if players desire, they can practice by themselves until comfortable. If anyone would like instruction, veteran players are usually present to provide advice.

The fun begins each Wednesday at 4 p.m. Horseshoes will be provided. There is no cost involved.

For more information, call Mark Bergon at 264-2838.
