Softball players interested in organizing teams to play in a local tournament which draws competition from around the Four Corners region can submit rosters during the coming weeks.
The Annual Blowout, which is in its third decade and typically features double-elimination brackets for men’s and women’s teams, will be held at the high school sports complex Aug. 3 and 4. This year’s format is “hit your own,” and the registration deadline is Aug. 1.
Registration fees for both divisions (men’s and women’s) are $275; a $150 deposit will guarantee placement in a bracket prior to the start of the tournament. Registration fees can be paid by cashier’s check or money order, but no personal checks will be accepted.
Team managers interested in submitting rosters for this year’s tournament can contact Sue Jones, tournament sponsor, at 264-2642 for more details.
Sand volleyball has been postponed until next month; July 30 is now the deadline to register for this year’s clinic.
The Ross Aragon Community Center, through a partnership with the Town of Pagosa Springs Recreation Department, is offering the four-week clinic for ages 9-12 in the month of August.
Registrations are available at the community center and at the recreation office in Town Hall. Registrations are also available for download through the recreation department link at www.townofpagosasprings.com.
Cost for the clinic is $20; class size is limited to 30 participants. The clinic will be held Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays at South Pagosa Park. All registrations should be submitted to the community center front desk.
The clinic will consist of practice-style sessions which will include drills, an introduction to game rules and scrimmages.
For more information, contact the community center at 264-4152 or the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 232.
Players ages 6-8 continue to meet Monday – Thursday 1-2 p.m.; players ages 9-12 meet Monday – Thursday 2-3 p.m. All sessions are held at the Wyndham Resorts tennis complex.
For more information, call Dale Schwicker, program instructor, at 903-3119 or the recreation office at 264-4151, Ext. 232.
Schedules are available at the recreation office in Town Hall and will be posted before the weekend on the recreation department page at www.townofpagosasprings.com
Managers are reminded that team registration fees are $250, plus a $30 fee per player. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the Town of Pagosa Springs.
The leagues are tentatively scheduled to run through early August. For more information, call 264-4151, Ext. 231 or 232.
Horseshoe pitching will continue through the summer at South Pagosa Park.
Players of all abilities (ages 12 and up) are welcome. This activity is for anyone wanting to learn the game and how to pitch, as well as anyone who already knows and wants to improve. Physical requirements are minimal.
There is plenty of room so, if players desire, they can practice by themselves until comfortable. If anyone would like instruction, veteran players are usually present to provide advice.
The fun begins each Wednesday at 4 p.m. Horseshoes will be provided. There is no cost involved.
