Area resident Ray Lattin has announced his intent to run for the office of Archuleta County Commissioner, District 3.
Lattin has been a rancher in the area for much of his life, being born and raised on a ranch in Archuleta County. He later returned to that ranch after a 20-year hiatus, during which he worked for Caterpillar selling equipment. On his ranch, Lattin raises beef cattle and puts up hay.
Lattin also owned a local autoparts store that is now owned by his son and the son’s partners.
“I think I can bring a lot to the table because of my experience,” Lattin said of his decision to run.
Lattin said he believes his experience will help improve efficiency in the road and bridge department and that his business background makes him good with budgeting.
“I know what it takes,” Lattin said.
Lattin has also served on the Archuleta County Planning Commission for four years, which he states gave him a good idea of what people throughout the county want and need.
“We need someone that can get along with the city and the county and I’ve worked with both,” Lattin said of his qualifications. “And I’m very involved in legislative issues with the state; I’m president of the Archuleta County Farm Bureau.”
In addition to improving the road and bridge department, other goals Lattin hopes to accomplish if elected include additional training within the county and seeking grants for purposes such as improving local amenities and infrastructure.
