Special to The SUN
Two levels of QuickBooks classes, Intro and Advanced, will be held at the Archuleta County Education Center on May 4 and 11, taught by Betty Woollard.
These Saturday classes will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with a short lunch break. The cost is $75 per class.
The Intro class will cover the basics of this accounting software, including setting up customers, vendors and employees, journal entries, recording sales and receivables, and writing checks. Students attending the Intro to QuickBooks class should have some bookkeeping experience and understand accounting terms, as this class will focus on QuickBooks programs and products, and not accounting training.
The Advanced class will be for current QuickBooks users, and will include payroll, creating subaccounts, reconciling bank statements and running reports. By attending the Intro class, you are eligible to attend the Advanced class, so why not sign up for both?
National Safety Council-approved classes in First Aid/CPR are held monthly at the Education Center, alternating between Saturdays and weeknights.
The April class will be Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; this class will be taught by Pete Peterson, while our May regular classes are taught by Carl Macht. We are offering two classes in May: Saturday, May 4, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and a Monday/Wednesday class May 13 and May 15, from 6-10 p.m. Classes are $70 for both First Aid and CPR, or $55 for one class only; registration fee is included. Spring is our busiest time for First Aid/CPR classes, so sign up early to ensure your place. For spring rafting guides and summer outfitters, two recertification classes will be held on Saturday, May 11 and Wednesday, May 22, both taught by Pete Peterson. If you plan to take a recertification class, start looking for that almost-expired certificate, which is required to be eligible to take a recertification class. Without proof of your previous certificate, you will need to take the full class.
For the summer schedule at the Education Center, starting June 1, GED instruction will be on a reduced schedule from June 1. GED test preparation and tutoring will be available Mondays only from 5-7 p.m.. The ESL program will take a break June through August, and classes will start up again in September. The summer schedule for SCCC college classes is still under consideration. Mid-June through mid-August, the Education Center’s office hours will be Monday through Thursday, mornings only.
